How to collect a money transfer in Sierra Leone
Someone abroad sent you money for cash pickup in Sierra Leone? Here is how to collect it from your phone with Korah and get paid on mobile money.
Before you start
Ask your sender for the transfer code. Each service names it differently: Western Union’s is often called an MTCN, MoneyGram issues a reference number, and Ria issues a transfer code. Have the code and a mobile money number ready.
How to collect your transfer with Korah
- Get the code. Your sender shares the transfer code with you.
- Submit it in the Korah app. Choose the service, pick Myself or Friend, enter the code and the mobile money number to pay. The first time you collect for yourself, an agent verifies your ID.
- An agent processes it. A registered agent handles the transfer at the counter on your behalf. You can follow the status in the app.
- You are paid on mobile money. The amount, plus any commission, lands in your wallet, and you get a notification with the mobile money reference as proof.
What you need
- The transfer code from your sender.
- The Korah app and a phone number you can verify.
- A valid ID, verified once by an agent, to collect for yourself.
- A mobile money number for the payout (yours, or your friend’s).
ID verification
Before you collect a transfer for yourself, an agent reviews a photo of a valid ID and your address once. Approved verification has an expiry date, and the app reminds you a month, a week and a day before it runs out.
Commission
Korah adds commission to your payout instead of charging you. It is paid on top of your amount, never deducted from it, and the rate for each service is shown in the app before you submit.

Common questions

Get the transfer code from your sender, submit it in the Korah app with the mobile money number to pay, and a registered agent processes it and pays it to your mobile money wallet.
What do I need to collect a transfer?
The transfer code from your sender, the Korah app with a phone number you can verify, a valid ID verified once by an agent if you collect for yourself, and a mobile money number for the payout.
What is the transfer code called?
It depends on the service. Western Union calls it a transfer code, often an MTCN. MoneyGram issues a reference number. Ria issues a transfer code. Your sender will have it.
Can someone else collect the money for me?
Yes. In the Korah app choose Friend, enter their mobile money number and the code, and the payout goes to them.
